TCPC February News and Happenings
As we tear another page from the calendar, it means one thing. We are another month closer to the opening of TCPC and our 40th anniversary season. Just think - in a little over two month folks will start arriving at TCPC - in just 78 days we will be hosting our first rally of the season.

Go ahead and make a note on your calendars that the weekend of April 14th and 15th is tentatively planned as our "grand opening" weekend. We will appreciate any volunteers that can help us get the park opened up and ready for the season. As we get closer I will send more information.

In the meantime, it sounds like many TCPCers are having a good winter in warmer climates. There were over two dozen folks at the TCPC luncheon in Tarpon Springs, FL a couple of weeks ago. And the Florida State Rally is rapidly approaching and we are hearing about a lot of TCPC folks that are planning to attend.

While I hope you are enjoying your winter quarters, there are still things going on in the Crossville area, and with the approach of the camping season, there are some TCPC events that are starting to appear on the calendar. We also have a new feature that shines the spotlight on things to do in the Crossville area. Read on for all the details......

BREAKING NEWS! As we were getting this edition ready to go out we learned that our President and First Lady, Michael and Janna Yeargin welcomed the newest Airstreamer into the family. Their 7lb 13 ounce grandson was born on the afternoon of 1/31. At last report, Grandpa Michael was busy shopping at the airstream.com company store website for Airstream baby apparel and was trying to convince his daughter and son-in-law that "Wally" was a fine name for a boy.

And now, on to our February 2012 Update!

In this edition:
* TCPC happenings for the month ahead
* Things to do in the Crossville area
* "Crossville Crossroads" - this new feature covers interesting things to see within an hour or two of the park

TCPC News and Happenings:

- The Florida State Rally is coming up Feb 14-19, 2012. There is always a large turnout of TCPCers at this rally. The past couple of years, several TCPCers have met on the morning of the 14th at a rest area on I-75 SB just north of Sarasota so we could all enter the rally together and end up parked together. If you would like to join the group and travel together to the rally site, please contact Don Shires at ironhorse10@earthlink.net for all the details.

- Please remember that volunteers are the heart of TCPC. As we get close to the start of the season if there is an event, a happening, a class, a meal, an outing or anything else that you think might be of interest to other members, contact a member of the ladies auxiliary and start planning for it. Some of our most popular events happened because someone made a suggestion.

- 2012 is the 40th anniversary of TCPC. So I hope you have been digging thru those old shoeboxes of photos, slides, 8mm films, etc that you might have from TCPC's past. Please bring those items with you when you come to the park. We would love to have plenty of material from each of the 4 decades of TCPC to put together a presentation for one of next year's rallies. If you know some former members that might have memorabilia, please reach out to them and see what we can dig up for this project.

- We are still looking for a workcamper couple to join us for the 2012 season. If you know an Airstream-owning couple that might be interested, have them get in touch with us at t.c.p.c@frontiernet.net

- Don't forget - the spring rally will be here before you know it and the Country Store is one of the LA's biggest fund raisers of the year - if you have some items around the house that might be of interest to other TCPCers, please save them for the store and bring them in the spring.

- As was mentioned earlier, the weekend of April 14th and 15th should be our "grand opening" weekend where we get the park ready for the season. More info to follow next month.

Crossville Crossroads

I was talking with some non-Airstream friends a couple of weeks ago. They were familiar with the Crossville area, as they have a timeshare at Fairfield Glade that they enjoy one week each year. We were discussing our favorite things to see and do within an hour or two of Crossville and it surprised me how few things my friends had heard about in our area. So I figured each month we would take a few minutes to review a destination that's an easy drive from the park. Some of you might already know about these places, but others may not. I hope you find this helpful, This month's destination: God's Treehouse:

What it is: A giant tree house -- maybe the largest in the world -- built by a preacher who says that God showed him how He wanted it to look.

For More info: http://www.usatoday.com/news/religion/2007-07-29-treehouse-church_N.htm

How to get there: I-40 exit 320 (Genesis Road). Turn north onto Hwy 298, then make an immediate right at the stoplight onto Cook Rd. Drive almost a mile. As the road takes a sharp right, instead make a sharp left onto Beehive Lane. Drive about a half-mile. The pavement will end, but keep driving. You'll see the tree house ahead and to the right. Remember that when you visit, you will be trespassing, and that the treehouse is not a funhouse. There are no safety precautions. You visit at your own risk.

That's it for this month. Travel safely and remember to send your news to t.c.p.c@frontiernet.net
